The Expendables is set for release later this year and the anticipation is high – mainly because Sylvester Stallone has recruited as many action stars who can still throw a punch as possible (along with a couple of wrestlers) for his action blockbuster. But producer Avi Lerner has stated that a sequel is already planned. “We are very serious,” Lerner told Empire.
“[We’re] already working on a sequel.” Lerner said that he couldn’t give any more information but Stallone all but confirmed it: when asked about future Rambo projects, he said that he thinks “Rambo’s pretty well done”.
“I don’t think there’ll be any more.”
This would mean that Stallone would be free to work on The Expendables 2, although if I’m honest I don’t want to see a sequel. The Expendables feels like the last salute to 80s action films and a sequel may send the genre out with a whimper rather than a bang…
